Study Centre

The Study Centre is a branch of the TLU Academic Library, located on the second floor of the Astra building (A205) within the university campus. It is open to TLU students and academic staff for study and research.

Please note: to access the Study Centre, you need a valid library card for the Academic Library of Tallinn University. To enter, scan the barcode of your personal identification code from the back of your ID card using the card reader located to the left of the Study Centre entrance. If you have a separate library card, scan its barcode instead. University staff can use their staff card to access the Study Centre.

The shelves in the Study Centre contain course books, subject packages, reference works, scientific periodicals and newspapers.

Study Centre I floor

The first floor of the Study Centre features a circulation desk, a reserved books hold shelf and the Social Sciences Reading Room with subject packages, scientific literature and course readings. There are also study rooms and an authorised workplace.

The room contains study materials in the following fields:

  • science of education

  • sociology and demography

  • human studies and social education
  • law

  • history
  • anthropology
  • religion
  • research methods
  • academic writing
  • statistics

The room also has two large monitors that can be connected to personal laptops:

  • PHILIPS 2K (2560×1440) 32″ monitor: to retain the high resolution, use the provided HDMI cable to connect the monitor to your laptop. The monitor comes with a keyboard and a mouse.
  • DELL 2K (2560×1440) monitor: this monitor can be connected to a personal laptop using the provided USB-C cable. It also comes with a keyboard and a mouse.

Subject packages contain required reading for TLU courses. There is usually only one copy of each book in the subject packages, and they are available for in-house use only (you can ask to borrow them overnight). The subject packages on the first floor are in the following fields:

On the first floor, there are three group study rooms (rooms A208–A210) and a seminar room with a 65-inch television (room A207). Each room seats 6–8 people.

The self-service machine is located near the entrance on the first floor of the Study Centre. You can borrow books from the Study Centre and return books from both the Study Centre and the Research Library. Read more HERE

Printing, photocopying, and scanning are self-service. A Print in City account is required to use the machine. Read more and create an account HERE.

Study Centre II floor

The second floor houses the Humanities Reading Room and individual study rooms. Our subject information specialists are also located on this floor.

Available in the room are dictionaries, sheet music, a selection of magazines and newspapers and study materials in the following fields:

The subject information specialists’ office is on the second floor (room A314). If you would like to learn how to use databases to find what you need, ask one of our subject information specialists. They can also help you with questions related to your study and research work.

Study Centre III floor

The third floor houses the Natural and Information Sciences Reading Room.

This room includes reference works, recent doctoral theses defended at TLU, and study materials in the following fields:
